Nick At Nite Has Television Sitcoms From The 80s
I’m a big fan of forensic shows like 48 Hours and 20/20 where the details of real crimes and how they were solved are dissected. I sometimes watch the dramatized versions such as CSI and NCIS but find boring plotlines involving the character’s interpersonal relationships often overshadow the actual investigation. Like many other Americans I’m frustrated with the quality of today’s scripted shows and seem to watch more and more reality TV.
Of course there are still some good sitcoms around. The Big Bang Theory is well written and superbly casted. Modern Family, 30 Rock and The Middle are also excellent shows but there are so many more that are just plain awful. With such slim pickings is it any wonder that shows like American Idol and Americas Got Talent are gaining favor?
For those of us seeking a little light-hearted family comedy Nick at Nite offers a solution by airing classic sitcoms from the 1980′s. Fran Drescher as The Nanny can brighten anyone’s day as she sets about winning over the uptight Sheffield family with heaping doses of Yiddish wisdom and street smarts. The adorable Tanner girls of Full House provide a respite from reality by confronting nothing more taxing than homework Kimmy Gibbler.
Another one of my favorites airing regularly on Nick at Nite is Home Improvement. For some reason I didn’t watch the show during its original run so I saw it for the first time only recently. I enjoyed Tim Allen in the Santa Claus movies but never knew he started out as Tim the Toolman. I love the premise that Tim has a TV show about home repairs yet is absolutely dangerous around tools of any sort. Also his quest to get “more power” out of everyday household devices has resulted in some hilarious scenes.
